↞ “Every time we eat, we’re feeding or fighting disease. Food is information for our genes. Make every meal an opportunity to improve your health.” ↠
If it were as simple as the statement above I wouldn’t have a job. We can all agree that “what” and “why” we eat is much more complex. Our meals are influenced by our personal goals, time, preparation, environment, misinformation/information in the media and the list goes on.
Chia seeds, flax seeds? Eat fat burn fat? Carbs are bad, what is a carb? Whole or non-fat milk? Sugar is toxic? Kale is a superfood? What is Gluten? Do I have to give up pasta for zoodles (zucchini noodles) if I want to be thin? And we all wonder why we find it quite tricky to follow a healthy diet (laughing). Our lives have become so busy, on top of that there is an overflow of products, diet books, and food products boasting health claims and quick fixes we want to believe. So again, what the heck are we supposed to eat? The answer: real food, food “you” enjoy, in moderation. The key is to adapt. Adapt to your life-know your barriers and find the balance between healthy meals and enjoyment. Nutrition is science but eating is behavior. Improvement in an individual’s health status and treatment plan should be assessed and include an integrative and multidisciplinary approach termed The Whole Body Approach.
